Cultural Round Trips -- Antiquity and the Ottoman World

Day 1: Arrival

Flight from chosen airport to İzmir. Pickup at the airport by our English-speaking tour guide and transfer to the hotel in Bergama or Ayvalık. Dinner and accommodation in Bergama or Ayvalık.

Day 2: Ayvalık/Bergama - Çanakkale approx. 220 km
Drive to Bergama, called Pergamon in antiquity. Visit the acropolis. In her time, Cleopatra took the famous books from Pergamon and brought them with her to Egypt. Then you will continue on towards Çanakkale, where one of the greatest battles of World War I took place. Visit the world-famous excavation site of Troy. Dinner and accommodation in Çanakkale.

Day 3: Çanakkale – Istanbul approx. 350 km
After breakfast, crossing over to the European side. Drive along the Dardanelles via Tekirdağ to the metropolis of Istanbul. Afternoon visit to Hagia Sophia and the hippodrome. Accommodation in Istanbul.

Day 4: Istanbul - Bursa approx. 200 km
After breakfast, visit the hippodrome. Then off to Topkapı Palace, which was the official and primary residence of the family of the Ottoman sultans. From this palace, the sultans ruled over a vast empire, which was the second largest in the world, after the Roman Empire. Today, visitors can admire the 100,000 exhibits on display here (harem and treasury not included). Then we drive over the European bridge to the Asian side and further on to Bursa.  Afternoon visit to the Green Mosque and the Green Tomb. Dinner and accommodation in Bursa.

Day 5: Bursa – Laodicea approx. 320 km
Drive to Laodicea/Pamukkale with the famous snow-white limestone terraces. Visit Laodicea, once one of the most important centres of Christianity. After an extensive visit, we drive you to your thermal spa hotel in Pamukkale.

Day 6: Laodicea - Kuşadası approx. 260 km

After breakfast, we will visit a carpet-making workshop near Tavas. Afterwards, the tour continues to Kuşadası. Afternoon visit to St. John's Basilica and the Temple of Artemis in Selçuk. Dinner and accommodation in the Kuşadası area.

Day 7: Ephesus approx. 100 km
Visit the ancient city of Ephesus. Ephesus is the most visited ancient city in Turkey. Excavations have been carried out here for more than one hundred years. The day's programme also includes a visit to a jewellery and leather centre. Dinner and accommodation in Kuşadası.

Day 8: Departure
Transfer to the airport and flight back.
