The champion of change
Istanbul (formerly known as Constantinople) is the largest city in Turkey, situated mostly on the site of the ancient city of Byzantium. Approximately ten million people live within the city limits and roughly 14 million within the urban agglomeration.
Istanbul stands not only on European soil but also on the Asian side of the Bosporus, and is therefore the only city in the world which is situated on two continents. It is recognized as one of the oldest cities in the world still in existence. Istanbul is the cultural and economic centre of Turkey.
The city’s 5000 year history, as well as the fact that it lies on two continents and was the capital of three great empires, makes Istanbul one of the most fascinating cities in the world. Even when separated by the Bosporus, the orient and the occident are here combined to showcase Istanbul’s multifaceted character. The buzzwords are experience, belong, smell, taste, shop, eat, be entertained and amazed!
Istanbul’s great wealth of sights and historical buildings will raise the pulse of every culture vulture. The bustling streets, bazaars, cafes, restaurants and shopping centres form the counterpoint to historical Istanbul, and together they create a harmonious and cosmopolitan cityscape. Similarly, the rapid growth of this modern city has seen the development of a perfect backdrop for congresses, seminars, exhibitions and trade fairs of all kinds.
